Wimpassing an der Leitha, Burgenland, municipality in the district of 
Eisenstadt Umgebung, alt. 222 m, pop. 883, area 
7.92 km%%sup 2/% at the border of Lower Austria and Burgenland. - 
Pumping station of the Adriatic-Vienna pipeline, transformer station, 
monastery and children's home of the order of St. Camillus; 
manufacturing of brushes and brooms. - Settlement finds from the 
neolithic period; on a hill, Baroque Catholic parish church 
(consecration 1593, new construction 1723) with former Franciscan 
monastery (founded 1587, Friars Minor from 1628, dissolved in 1787, 
monastery of the Order of St. Camillus since 1929), surrounded by 
a defensive wall (16th century), sumptuous high altar (around 1780) 
with 2 tall statues of angels (18th century); it used to be the home 
of the so-called  Wimpassing Cross from 1784 to 1939. Parsonage, 
formerly Friars Minor monastery (built around 1700, alterations 1975); 
neo-Gothic Bruendlkapelle chapel (1877); Trinity Column (17th 
century).
