Zehner, Wilhelm#
b. Bistrita, Rumania (then Bistritz), Sept. 2, 1883, d. Vienna, April 11, 1938 (assasinated), officer (general of the infantry). Captain in the army during World War I; fought in the armed dispute between Carinthia and Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, who laid claims to Carinthian territory in 1918; became regimental commander and brigadier in 1933; Staatssekretaer at the Federal Ministry of Defence from July 10, 1934; general from Oct. 1934; During his time in office the status of the Austrian Army was considerably reinforced; had to resign after the National Socialists' rise in Austria; was probably killed by the Nazis because of his stance regarding the July Putsch of 1934 .
