Namibia#

by Hermann Maurer.

Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia, is a state in southern Africa and is bordered in the north by Angola and Zambia, in the east by Zimbabwe and Botswana, in the east and south by South Africa and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean. Since 1990 it is a Republic and independent from South Africa. Windhoek is the biggest city as well as the capital of Namibia.
The name "Namibia" was chosen as neutral name which favours none of the many Namibian peoples and derives from the Namib Desert, which covers nearly the entire Atlantic coast and is considered to be the oldest desert in the world. Namibia is a member state of the United Nations (UN), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU) and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The most important branches of trade are agriculture, tourism and mining, especially of uranium, gold, silver and base metals.
