El Presidio Real de Santa Bárbara 34.422502,-119.6990904 is a former military installation in Santa Barbara, California, which was built in 1782 by Spain. It was intended to defend the Second Military District in California but was never attacked by a strong military force. Several earthquakes however destroyed much of the structure. In 1963, the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) was founded, with the primary mission of restoring the Presidio and in 1966, the land on which the Presidio is located became a State Historic Park. The Presidio of Santa Barbara was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 26, 1973.
