The bowl-shaped Kathmandu valley is surrounded by four mountains, the Shivapuri (2,800 metres / 9,200 feet), the Phulchowki (2,795 metres / 9,170 feet), the Nagarjun (2,825 metzres / 9,268 feet) and the Chandragiri (2,300 metres / 7,500 feet). 

The major river flowing through the valley is the Bagmati.
