The highlight of the festival is in the morning. Miles long colourful parades are organised by the tribes of the island, reminding people of the cultural variety of the Philippines. Before the arrival of the Spanish the archipelago was populated by at least 100 different ethnic groups, speaking as many languages. Nowadays they are represented by 7 % of the population (approximately 6 million people). They were oppressed by the Spanish and American colonial masters. The Filipinos are remarkably tolerant people. There are conflicts with the government, especially regarding land rights, despite being tolerant. At least Philippine minorities mostly still live in their ancestral areas and partly maintain their old traditions, although the assimilation pressure is big.

Bereits am frühen Vormittag steht der Höhepunkt des Festes am Programm. Dann veranstalten die einzelnen Stämme der Insel kilometerlange, farbenprächtige Umzüge, die auch ein wenig an die Vielfalt der Kulturen auf den Philippinen erinnern. Vor Ankunft der Spanier war der Inselarchipel von mindestens 100 verschiedenen Volksgruppen bevölkert, die ebenso viele Sprachen hatten. Sie stellen heute etwa 7 % der Bevölkerung, das sind knapp 6 Millionen Menschen. Unterdrückt wurden sie vor allem von den spanischen und amerikanischen Kolonialherren, denn die Philippinos selbst sind auffallend tolerante Menschen. Trotzdem gibt es bis heute immer wieder Streit mit der Regierung, besonders, wenn es um Landrechte geht. Zumindest leben die philippinischen Minderheiten noch meist in ihrem angestammten Gebiet und pflegen zum Teil alte Traditionen, wenngleich der Assimilierungsdruck durch die Bevölkerungsmehrheit groß ist.
