At the southern tip of Mainland a 100m high rocky spur, called Sumburgh Head [{GoogleMap location='Sumburgh Head, Großbritannien und Nordirland' zoom='10'}], is located, which is capped by Sumburgh Lighthouse. The building started in 1819 and later on, in 1821, the first light was lit. Nowadays the area is a RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) nature reserve and a great viewing place for a large number of seabirds as well as whales and dolphins.
