Johann Joseph Fux (1660 St.
Marein/Graz - 1741 Vienna) composed this Requiem mass for the widowed
Empress Eleonore (widow of Leopold I) in 1720. It was also performed
for the funerals of Leopold Joseph of Loraine, Prince Eugene of Savoy
and Emperor Charles VI and is therefore known as the so-called
''Imperial Requiem''. Ill.: ''Castrum doloris'' for Charles VI. (E. Stadler)
