Laurentius von Schnifis Schnüffis, eigentlich Johannes Martin#

Laurentius von Schnifis (Schnueffis, real name: Johannes Martin), b. Schnifis (Vorarlberg), Aug. 24, 1633, d. Constance (Germany), Jan. 7, 1702; eminent late baroque preacher, lyric poet and storyteller. First travelling comic actor, from 1658 actor at the court theatre in Innsbruck; left the court after the death of his patron Archduke Ferdinand Karl, entered the Capuchin Order (1665). Wrote religious works in the tradition of baroque emblematic literature and pastoral romances, influenced by popular literature. Preacher in the territory of Vorderoesterreich of his order; awarded the honorary title of "poet" by Emperor Leopold I.
