Salza#

Salza Rivers, Styria, name of 2 tributaries of the River Enns. The Mariazeller Salza river, flows into the River Enns in the Styrian-Lower Austrian Limestone Alps, 88 km long, average rate of flow 19.8 m3/sec. (at Wildalpen). Rises south of Traisenberg mountain (Lower Austria) and flows past Mariazell (alt. 868 m) in the north and Hochschwab mountain in the south through a narrow valley (south-) west of the River Enns, which it joins at Grossreifling (alt. 449 m). South-east of Hochkar mountain (alt. 1,808 m), the Lassingbach stream flows into the Mariazeller Salza.


The Mitterndorfer Salza river (Salza-Bach river), the northern tributary of the River Enns, rises in Totes Gebirge Mountains, passes Bad Mitterndorf (alt. 809 m) and empties into the River Enns at St. Martin bei Grimming (alt. 716 m). The Salza Reservoir is located at 768 m north-west of the confluence of the two rivers between Kammspitz mountain (alt. 2,139 m) and Grimming mountain (alt. 2,351 m), the Salza Power Station (8.5 Mw maximum capacity) lies further downstream. The uppermost part of the valley formed by the Mitterndorfer Salza river is called Oederntal valley.
