Oekumenischer Rat der Kirchen in Oesterreich, Ecumenical Council of Churches in Austria, established in 1958, members include all Protestant churches and Free Churches as well as the Orthodox churches and Eastern Christian Churches in Austria, excluding the Baptist churches, which have observer status. The Roman Catholic bishops´ conference became a member in 1994 after a change in statute. - As a union of churches, the Austrian Ecumenical Council aims to promote co-operation among the churches, to express their mutual recognition of each other and to encourage Christian unity.
