AGRANA Beteiligungs-AG, Austria's only sugar and starch group  Sugar 
Industry, with sugar refineries in Hohenau, Leopoldsdorf and Tulln 
(all in Lower Austria) and starch factories in Gmuend (Lower Austria, 
established 1940-1942) and Aschach (Upper Austria, established 1936). 
The AGRANA group has also attained a leading market position in the 
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Rumania. In 1998/1999 AGRANA 
Beteiligungs AG and its subsidiaries achieved a turnover of ATS 9.4 
billion and had a staff of approx. 4,500.
