ASEA-Brown Boveri AG, ABB, formed in 1988 by the merger of Asea 
(established 1930) and BBC (established 1910). Electronics group 
headquartered in Vienna. ABB manufactures electrotechnical systems and 
power generation, transmission and distribution apparatus for 
industrial plants and rail transport systems; the company owns 
production facilities in Wiener Neudorf (Lower Austria) and Neutal 
(Burgenland). Revenues in 1994 totalled ATS 4 bn; the number of 
employees was 1,800.
