Achenkirch, Tyrol, municipality in the district of Schwaz, alt. 
916 m, pop. 1,969, area 113.96 km%%sup 2/%, health resort 
and tourist town (456,930 overnight stays) in the  Achen Valley 
between  Achensee, Lake and  Achen Pass near the German border. Golf 
course, summer toboggan run, game park, lifts to the high mountain 
pastures, forestry enterprise run by the Oesterreichische Bundesforste 
AG (Austrian Federal Forests) "Almen" (pastures); furniture factory. 
Parish church (1748); Tourism in Tyrol had its beginnings in 
Achenkirch around 1850.
