b. Graz (Styria), March 13, 1901, 
d. Vienna, Aug. 25, 1964, horticultural expert and politician of the 
Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPOe); son of Anton  Afritsch. In 
charge of the Plant Protection Service in Vienna until his arrest in 
1942. From 1945 local councillor and city councillor (charged with 
general administration) in Vienna, 1951 head of the Department of 
Parks and Gardens in Vienna (while officially suspended from office), 
1959-1963 Minister of the Interior, in 1964 commissioner of the Vienna 
International Horticultural Show.
