Agatha, Saint, feast day February 5, 
d. Sicily (Italy), around 251. Patron saint of the Knights of St. John 
of Jerusalem, of bell-founders, weavers and shepherds. Her acts of 
martyrdom are legendary; invoked against fire and illness with sweet 
bread baked and blessed on 5th February. In Carinthia (Jauntal) the 
throwing of loaves is still a custom.
