Alserbach Stream (Alsbach, Als), originates in the mountains of the 
Vienna Woods near Dornbach (in 17th district of Vienna) and drains 
into the Danube Canal in Alsergrund (9th district of Vienna); 
re-routed outside of the city in 1459, included in the Hernals water 
pipeline in 1732 (supplied water for the old General Hospital and the 
military hospital from 1829 on); 1840-1846 vaulted over from the"line" 
(Guertel ring-road) to the Danube Canal, 1878 also in Hernals (name 
derived from "Herren-Als") area. - Tributaries: Dornbach and Eckbach 
streams.
