b. Vienna, Aug. 16, 1821, 
d. Vienna, Feb. 13, 1914, painter and watercolourist; son of Jakob  
Alt and brother of Rudolf von  Alt. Studied under L.  Kupelwieser and 
J.  Danhauser at the Vienna Academy; travelled to Italy, the 
Netherlands and Russia; painted topographical subjects such as 
landscapes and views of towns, which he used for his lithographs.
