Swearing-in: formal oath of commitment taken upon assumption of a 
public office or function. The president of Austria is sworn in by the 
Federal Assembly, federal ministers, state secretaries and provincial 
governors by the Austrian president, members of the provincial 
governments and mayors of towns with their own statutes by the 
provincial governors, and other mayors by the district commissioner. 
Members of legislative bodies or municipal councils are also sworn in. 
The term "swearing in" is also used with regard to recruits, public 
servants, teachers and judges who take oaths of service.
