b. Piacenza (Italy), May 10, 1653, 
d. Vienna, Aug. 30, 1720, cartographer, engineer and officer, drew 
maps of Vienna (1683, 1704-1706) and drew up the first plan to 
regulate the River Danube (1688); co-founder and director of the 
Academy of Military Engineering (1717).
