b. Graz (Styria), May 6, 1771, 
d. Graz (Styria), April 3, 1843, mineralogist and surgeon, 1817 
scientific expert and curator at the Joanneum in Graz. First to 
examine the geological structure of Styria and to publish a geological 
map of the province. The mineral ankerite (a carbonate of iron) was 
named after him.
