b. Karlsruhe (Germany), Jan. 22, 1901, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 30, 1972, composer, in Austria from 1921, pupil of 
Arnold  Schoenberg and Alban  Berg, his compositions correspond 
stylistically to the second generation of the "Vienna School", showed 
a lifelong preference for twelve-tone music. Grand Austrian State 
Prize in 1956.
