!!!Aquileia

Aquileia, small town on the Isonzo river delta, Friaul/Friuli (Italy).
The Roman colony, founded in 181 B.C., became a base for the
development and conquest of the Danube region. Seat of a bishop from
the 3rd century onward, then of the patriarch with a large diocese.
The River Drau/Drava was designated as the border to the Archdiocese
of Salzburg in 811. In 976 Aquileia became part of Carinthia, then
part of Goerz (now Gorizia); later part of Austria (1500-1809 and
1814-1918).
