Arbeitsgemeinschaft Katholischer Verbaende Oesterreichs, AKV: Catholic 
lay organisation founded in 1954, comprises 20 member associations who 
work mainly in the youth supervision sector (e.g. the Austrian  
Kolpingwerk; members also include student associations, 
teachers´ associations, and recreational organisations. The 
approximately 1 million individual members form part of the lay 
apostolate and are active in society, in the workplace, the family and 
the church as recommended by the 2%%sup nd/%  Vatican Council. The 
Arbeitsgemeinschaft awards the "Kardinal Opilio Rossi-Medaille" for 
outstanding services in the lay apostolate and the "Bischof DDr. 
Stefan László-Preis".
