b. Breitensee, Vienna, June 12, 1921, 
d. Vienna, Dec. 4, 2000, writer and translator. In 1952 initiated the 
formation of the  Wiener Gruppe but left the group in 1958; from 1954 
travelled extensively. In his works popular myths, comic narratives 
and farce are presented in different narrative forms such as montages, 
travel reports and enumerations. His collected poems "med ana 
schwoazzn dintn" (1958) gave him a name as an innovative dialect poet. 
1973-1978 first president of the  Grazer Autorenversammlung (Graz 
Association of Authors). Awarded the Grand Austrian State Prize in 
1974; in 1991 the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of 
Salzburg was conferred upon him; in 1997 he received the Prize of 
Honour of the Austrian Book Trade and the Georg Buechner Prize.
