Austria Email AG, manufacturer and supplier of water heaters, heaters, 
gas and solar energy facilities, headquarters at Knittelfeld (Styria). 
Created from the merger of a factory for enamelware which had been 
established at the end of the 19th century and a group of Viennese 
factories owned by the Laenderbank bank. In the 1930s the majority of 
shares was taken over by the STEG state railway company; after World 
War II the company was taken over by Creditanstalt-Bankverein 
bank group and in 1972 acquired its present name. In 1980 it was taken 
over by a subsidiary of ELIN AG. In 1990  Auricon Beteiligungs-AG 
purchased a controlling share of its stock, and in 1992 its business 
areas were separated into Austria Email Waermetechnik GmbH (heating) 
and Austria Email Licht- und Umwelttechnik GmbH (lighting and 
environmental engineering). The latter was sold in 1995; in 1996 the 
former was merged with Austria Email AG; in 1998 Auricon sold 25% and 
one share of Austria Email AG to KEH Holding AG, thus reducing its 
share to 40%. In 1998 the group employed a total of approximately 430 
people.
