b. Stoegersbach (Lower Austria), Jan. 26, 1886, 
d. Vienna, May 13, 1959, construction worker, trade unionist and 
politician (Austrian Social Democratic Party, SPOe), 1930-1934 and 
1945-1959 member of the Nationalrat, 1945-1959 2nd president of the 
Nationalrat. One of the founders of the politically independent 
Austrian  Federation of Trade Unions (OeGB) and its president until 
1959. Along with J.  Raab, one of the main initiators of the  social 
partnership.
