Buers, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Bregenz, alt. 
570 m, pop. 2,954, area 24.62 km%%sup 2/%; located at the 
confluence of River Ill and the Alvierbach stream (in the Brandner 
Valley). Commerce, small-scale trades and industry: textile, 
synthetics and metal working industries; Luenersee spinning and 
weaving mill (built in 1836 as one of the earliest industrial 
buildings in the area); production of dental instruments; structural 
steel engineering and mechanical engineering (industrial equipment and 
cable-car cabins); tourist centre. - First documented mention in 802; 
Classicist parish church (built between 1843 and 1872) with choir in 
late Gothic style; new parish church "Friedenskirche" ("Peace Church", 
built between 1968 and 1973); Rosenegg Castle (destroyed in the war of 
Appenzell in 1405); Neo-Gothic keep, built between 1898 and 1900; 
altered in 1939; ancient type of Alpine farmhouse (Einhof); Buers 
Gorge on the Alvierbach stream.
