Bad Kreuzen, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Perg, alt.
474 m, pop. 2,277, area 39.92 km%%sup 2/%, in the eastern
Muehlviertel region, well-known for Kneipp therapies (therapy after
the German priest S. Kneipp combining cold water treatment, diets and
outdoor exercise), refugee care centre, external affiliate of the
training department of the Upper Austrian Gendarmerie Headquarters,
Kneipp therapy centre (run by the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel),
health tourism (46,646 overnight stays). First documentary mention in
1147, late Gothic parish church, former fortress (2%%sup nd/% half of
the 14%%sup th/% century, destroyed between 1783 and the end of the
19%%sup th/% century, some parts still preserved, restoration works
began in 1974, now used as hostel and cultural centre).
