Bad Mitterndorf, Styria, market town in the district of Liezen, alt. 
809 m, pop. 3,035, area 112.54 km%%sup 2/%, lying on the Salza 
river south of the Totes Gebirge Mountains between the towns of Bad 
Aussee and Liezen and at the foot of Grimming Mountain (2,351 m). 
Training centre of the Austrian Armed Forces, Heilbrunn therapy centre 
(medicinal spring, spa administration centre), ski-flying jump (since 
1919), tourism (334,411 overnight stays), museum, collection of masks, 
weaving mill. First documentary mention in 1147; skiing resort since 
early 20%%sup th/%  century, development as health resort and spa town 
after World War II, called "Bad" (spa) since 1972, parish church 
(14%%sup th/% /15%%sup th/%  centuries) with Baroque interior and 
altar-piece painting (1782) by M. J. Schmidt, Grubegg palace 
(around 1591), residences of the wealthy associates of the mining 
company, pilgrimage church in Kumitzberg (part of the town, 
1766-1773).
