Vigaun, province of Salzburg, municipality in the district of Hallein, 
alt. 469 m, pop. 1,848, area 17.55 km%%sup 2/%, tourist 
resort (122,608 overnight stays in 1992, majority in summer) in the 
Salzach Valley, near Hallein. - Spa resort with thermal bath 
(34° C), private St. Barbara hospital; spa tourism, sand and 
gravel plant. - Late Gothic parish church (documented mention in 790, 
new church built 1488-1516); old Tennengauer Einhof type farmhouses; 
stone walls used for demarcation purposes instead of the common wooden 
fences, Bruderloch cave with chapel in Riedl hill. Local custom: 
procession of marksmen in traditional costumes on Corpus Christi Day.
