d. Trieste (Italy), Sept. 23, 1986, officer. 1916 commander of the 
Trieste Naval Air Base; 1917 awarded a knighthood for his military 
conduct (Maria Theresia Order) and the title of "Baron"; from 1920 
entrepreneur and member of a salvage company; B. cleared the Suez 
Canal after the crisis in 1957.
