d. Boeblingen (Germany), May 30, 1997, engineer. 1939-1973 head of 
research and development at Daimler-Benz, developed the "passive 
restraint system" for cars including the safety steering wheel and the 
passenger´s safety seat, held more than 2,500 patents.
