b. Aš, Czech Republic (then Asch), Jan. 19, 1838, 
d. Freiburg (Germany), Aug. 17, 1905, lawyer, politician. From 1871 
member of the Bohemian Landtag, 1873-1905 member of the Reichsrat; 
co-founder of the "German Organization for Bohemia"; 1882-1885 member 
of Vienna City Council; initially supported the Liberals, later became 
leader of the  Los-von-Rom-Bewegung (anti-papist movement) and 
eventually joined the "Pan-German Association" under the leadership of 
G. von  Schoenerer.
