!!!Basketball

Basketball, ball game originating in the USA, slowly established in 
Austria from 1936 on. At first only a supplementary sport for handball 
players, the game rivalled the older Korbball, a game similar to 
basketball and usually played by girls. The Austrian Basketball 
Federation was founded in 1948 and comprises 165 associations and 
9,208 members (figures from 1993).
