b. Znaim (Znojmo, Czech Republic), Sept. 29, 1942, physicist. Studied 
physics, mathematics and chemistry at the University of Vienna, taught 
at the University of Ulm, Germany, from 1977; 1979-90 professor at the 
Leoben Mining and Metallurgical University, since 1990 professor and 
head of the Department for Semicoductor Physics at the University of 
Linz.
