!!!Bayer, Carl-Josef

b. Bielsko, Poland (then Bielitz), March 4, 1847, 
d. Rietzdorf near Celje, Slovenia (then Cilli), Oct. 4, 1904, chemist, 
devised the so-called Bayer process whereby he broke down bauxite 
using a bath of sodium hydrate to produce hydrate of alumina. 
Established factories in Rietzdorf (today in Slovenia), Russia and 
America.
