Befreiungsschein, a document which puts aliens subject to the 
Employment of Aliens Act on the same level as Austrians as far as 
employment within Austria is concerned. Several requirements must be 
met: The person seeking employment has to file an application. He or 
she must either furnish proof of employment in Austria during five 
years within the past eight years or must have been married to an 
Austrian for at least 5 years and have his/her permanent residence in 
Austria. Obtaining a Befreiungsschein is usually easier for young 
persons.
