Pardon, act of grace granted by the Federal President in individual 
cases, whereby he can remit, mitigate, and commute punishments imposed 
by a court, forbear legal consequences, extinguish sentences, and 
quash criminal proceedings in the case of a criminal offence rendering 
the accused liable to public prosecution; compare: criminal procedure 
in financial matters, granting of pardons by the Federal Minister of 
Finance ( Amnesty).
