b. Tarnow (Poland), 1795, 
d. Aleppo (Syria), Dec. 10, 1850, Polish general. Played a major role 
in the  Revolution of 1848, especially in the defence of Vienna in 
October 1848, then in Hungary in 1849; later entered service in Turkey 
(Amurat Pascha).
