Berndorf AG, technology and metalware firm situated at Berndorf (Lower 
Austria), has 48 affiliated companies and holding companies in 14 
countries with a share capital of ATS 150 million. The formerly 
nationalised company ( Nationalised Industry) was privatised in 1988 
through a management buy-out (N.  Zimmermann). It manufactures 
crockery and tableware, high-grade steel sheets and sheet-production 
plants, overhead cables and special aluminium products, structured 
pressed sheets, metal and bathroom equipment, industrial process 
engineering, oilfield equipment (Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield 
Equipment AG,  Schoeller-Bleckmann) and industrial furnaces 
(Aichelin). The company continues the tradition of the Krupp factories 
(A.  Krupp) at Berndorf. It employed 1,170 people in 1998.
