Berthold, Saint, feast day July 27, 
d. Garsten (Upper Austria), July 27, 1142, Benedictine; descended from 
the Church governors of Regensburg. Prior in the monasteries of Saint 
Blasien (Black Forest) and Goettweig (1107), around 1111 first abbot 
of the monastery in Garsten, which he made a centre of reform. B. 
introduced the ideas of the "Hirsau Reform" into Austria.
