Probation, help for offenders after a conditional sentence or release 
from custody or court order. During the probationary period, the 
offenders are assisted individually by social workers to assist the 
rehabilitation process and prevent relapses. Probation assistance is 
therefore regarded as a specialised branch of social work. The 
Association for Probation Service and Social Work, as contracting 
party of the Ministry of Justice, services in the fields of probation 
service, out-of-court settlements and help for released offenders. 
They look after approx. 12,000 people every year.
