d. April 2/3, 1945 (suicide), archivist. From 1926 director of the 
state archives (Haus- Hof- und Staatsarchiv), from 1941 director of 
the Vienna Reichsarchiv. After 1918 led the negotiations with the 
successor states of Austria-Hungary concerning the records stored in 
the imperial archives.
