Boii, Celtic tribe, their area of settlement shifted towards Western 
Slovakia, the Weinviertel (Lower Austria) and the Vienna basin into 
the area around Sopron (Hungary) at around 100 B.C. After an attack on 
the Regnum Noricum had failed, part of the tribe moved to Gaul, where 
it was defeated by Caesar. Around 50 B.C., the Boii were crushingly 
defeated by Burebistas, king of the Dacians, and thus wiped out as a 
factor of political power.
