b. Langensalza (Germany), July 29, 1814, 
d. Berlin (Germany), July 25, 1888, classical philologist. 1849-1867 
university professor in Vienna, established the Philological Seminar, 
worked out a plan for the organisation of secondary school education ( 
Organisationsentwurf 1849) in Austria in 1849 together with F.S.  
Exner, who created the basic concept and helped him reorganise the 
Prussian system of secondary education (1882) after B.´s return 
to Berlin.
