Brandl, Rudolf, b. Stockerau (Lower Austria), July 1, 1943, 
composer, musicologist. Studied ethnology, African studies, philosophy 
and musicology in Vienna; from 1962 also studied twelve-tone music at 
the Vienna Conservatory of Music as well as electronic music and 
composition at the Musikhochschule (now University of Music and 
Performing Arts) in Vienna. 1967-1975 head of the ensemble "Die 
Kontraste"; 1968-1975 researcher at the phonogram archives of the 
Austrian Academy of Sciences; since 1981 professor of systematic 
musicology and ethnomusicology at the University of Goettingen.
