d. Vienna, June 20, 1925, internist, physiologist; discovered the
self-regulation of breathing through the nervus vagus. His "cathartic
(purifying) method" for the healing of neurotic and hysterical defects
was to be the starting point for S. Freud in his theory of
psycho-analysis.
