!!!Buchdenkmal

Buchdenkmal, granite boulder (natural monument) in the Pechgraben near 
the village of Grossraming (Upper Austria) with an inscription in 
honour of the German geologist Leopold von Buch (1774-1853). From the 
geological point of view the existence of granite in the Alpine 
foothills on the border between the Limestone Alps and the flysch zone 
is an exceptional feature. In the past it was assumed that the 
Buchdenkmal granite was an elevation of the Bohemian Massif; now it is 
evident that it is part of a thrust klippe.
