Book Clubs, sell members books at a reduced prices on condition that 
they buy books regularly. In Austria there are 5 book clubs: 
Donauland, Deutsche Buch-Gemeinschaft Alpenland, Buecherbund, Herder 
Buchgemeinde and Buechergilde Gutenberg. 3 of these are majority owned 
by the German Bertelsmann AG. In 1994 around 1 million people were 
subscribers to book clubs in Austria.
